City Colleges of Chicago is offering any full or part-time students currently enrolled at any of the city colleges a free Divvy membership for one whole year! Yes! Free!
If you log into your myccc.edu account, you should find the tab to the membership under “Announcements”. Students are given a code that activates their membership online or on the Divvy App. The membership is good to use for one whole year from the day you first activate the code. The code is available on a first come first serve basis and will continue to be available until it runs out, according to the CCC website.
“Last year I paid almost two hundred bucks for a membership, so it's cool that they're giving it out for free,” said 23-year-old HWC student Xufan K.
According to the Divvy website, a regular annual membership costs around $119. Students that have already purchased an annual membership will have to wait until renewal in order to take advantage of the CCC discount.
Jasmine H, a 23-year-old HWC student, has been using Divvy for a year and prefers riding, rather than waiting in traffic.
“Divvys and scooters are just starting to be more convenient, there's just too much traffic everywhere,” said Jasmine.
The Divvy website provides different routes students can take in order to get to their destinations more smoothly and with less traffic. The website also provides a full list of dock stations around the city and allows you to find your nearest one.
With over one thousand dock locations around the city, students can access bikes and ride them unlimited all day and everyday, according to the Divvy membership.
From 99 Divvy bike stations in Edgewater to 111 bike stations in the “Back of Yards” neighborhood on the South Side, stations can be found mostly everywhere.
The HWC campus has over 30 stations nearby where bikes can be rented.
According to Divvy, there are a few helpful tips that can make your ride more smoothly:
Try to plan your route before you ride. It can make it easier and less stressful to know where you're going and how to get there. It can also help you avoid having to stop anywhere.
Wear a helmet. It's always best to be safe than sorry and avoid serious injuries.
Never ride distracted. Even though you're not driving, you should always have two eyes on the road!
