A new group of select students will share their stories with prospective college students to help promote programs and services offered at the City Colleges of Chicago.
The CCC Student Ambassador program is composed of a “distinct group of students who volunteer their unique CCC student experience with prospective students, their families, and the community,” according to the website for the program.
Student ambassadors will use their leadership to “communicate with students and visitors about campus life, promote academic programs, serve on student panels, and attend special functions with the chancellor,” according to the program’s website.
CCC Director of Civic Engagement Elvis Guzman designed and oversaw the program in its first year.
The goal of the program is to “give a voice to CCC students to inspire others to consider City Colleges of Chicago as a school of choice,” according to Guzman, adding that “the ambassadors provide insight into the student experience across the district, build community across all seven colleges, and inspire others with the higher education journey.”
There are currently three different tiers to the program: Lead Ambassador; Representative Ambassador; and Champion Ambassador. The roles of Lead Ambassador and Representative have been filled. Champion positions are still available.
“The ambassador program allows students to share their personal stories to inspire others to consider going back to college,” said Guzman. “Your story is important, consider joining other Champion Ambassadors and share your story with others.”
Marvin Howell, a current CCC student, is the Lead Ambassador president, whose responsibilities include “coordinating events, spearheading initiatives, and making sure we are leveraging every opportunity to get the community involved in the CCC community,” according to Howell. “Most importantly, I enjoy letting as many people know that you’re not settling when you choose a community college.”
